My (Much Awaited) JuRo Makeover

There are makeovers and then there’s JuRo. I’ve been stalling my 30s makeover for over 2 years now and I’m glad I finally had the chance to do it. I first met Jude Hipolito and Rose Velasco (aka. JuRo) some 2 years ago when they first introduced the Japanese Blowout Treatment. I was supposed to get my hair done a week or two after our first meet-up but our schedules did not align until last October 23. I called Jude while I was in Cebu 2 weeks prior and as I was noodling on my strands, I couldn’t keep myself still when he confirmed that they’re available the day that I was free. EEEP!

This is my hair prior to the makeover. It’s out of shape and yes, in dire need of colour. When I got to their no-frills and unpretentious salon in BGC, I thought that it’s the first time I’m going through a makeover where 1) I said “just do your thing” and 2) I didn’t have to close my eyes in anxiousness what the end result would be.

Accounting that I’d like to grow my hair long for the upcoming streak of 2016 weddings, Jude gave my normal to fine hair a very meticulous reshaping. We agreed to keep it to a bob (with bangs, no less!) that will grow out nicely with the “caramelt” balayage Rose will render.

Above is my bob after one round of snipping. As a JuRo newbie, Rose schooled me why a pre-colour treatment is crucial to my hair’s immediate output and overall health. She promised me nothing but love if and when I submit to using Olaplex. Olaplex is very new to me. Apparently, it’s the secret of all secrets! :) Think of it as the insurance for your hair (as they call themselves). You can bleach and colour to your heart’s content without fear as it protects the hair like no other against the usual colour damage.

After rinsing and drying my Olaplex treated hair, here comes the fun part — colouring! :)

Using ELGON hair colour, my hair was “painted” in various sections and varying tones and intensities without introducing a new all-over colour. After rinsing, Jude gave my bob a round 2, this time perfecting my bangs. We started a little past 3pm and I left the salon a little past 7pm. In between travel chit chats and strong (and spectacular) coffee, I couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear when I saw the results of my first (and definitely not the last) JuRo makeover:

Here’s how my hair looked like a week later. I’m so glad that I still don’t have to blow dry it everyday to look this pristine!

January 19 EDIT: It’s been almost 3 months since I had my hair coloured and my hair is still super soft, shiny, and growing out really nicely. :) I’m so hooked on my JuRo caramelt bob and I can’t wait to have it reshaped soon!
